Overview

Much as sensations of lightness and brightness can be altered by empirical information, so the color sensations elicited by spectral differences can be markedly changed by information that affects the probability distributions of the possible stimulus sources. The nature of these effects implies that sensations generated by spectral information are determined in the same general way as sensations of luminance.
